MATT CAMPBELL CHARGES TO FIRST WIN WITH NEW TEAM

Abbottstown, PA (June 22, 2024) – Matt Campbell hoped in the seat of a brand new team at the start of the 2024 season, “We started with a blank slate. This is our tenth show out and we’ve been consistent.”  Coming into Saturday night, Campbell sat second in the season point standings.

Campbell lined up ninth for the start of the feature, midway through the field. Matt was up to sixth by lap 7 and then found his way into the top five on lap 13. Campbell continued his charge to the front. The car came to life for the second half of the race “I kept running my line and found something on the bottom,” he was up to fourth on lap 17 and then lap 22 he was into the top three, “This thing was on a rail.” After getting to third, Campbell got by Rahmer and Campbell with a single pass in turns 1 and 2 to take the lead with five laps to go. Once he got to the front he started to pull away and that was all she wrote, “What a freakin’ race!”

Pole-sitter, Kody Hartlaub, pulled a wheelie at the chalk line and led the field into turn 1. Troy Wagaman was looking under Aaron Bollinger for a shot at second and Kyle Moody got by Chad Trout for fourth.

Freddie Rahmer was working on Trout for fifth and made the pass with a slider in turn 2. Bollinger and Wagaman were closing in on Hartlaub as they got into lapped traffic

Wagaman made a move to get under Bollinger in turns 1 and 2 to take second and Rahmer moved into fourth. Rahmer got under Bollinger and Matt Campbell was there to make it a three-car battle for third.

Rahmer was closing in on Wagaman for second and made the pass to take the spot on lap 17. Campbell moved into fourth and was reeling in Wagaman for third. A fierce battle was underway for third as Wagaman and Campbell raced side by side at the line with 10 laps to go. Campbell moved into third and not long after there was a three-car battle for the lead with Hartlaub, Rahmer and Campbell.

Campbell got by both Rahmer and Hartlaub in one pass to take the lead coming out of turn 2 with 5 laps to go. Rahmer and Hartlaub raced wheel to wheel for second as Campbell pulled away.

Campbell took the checkers 2.557 seconds ahead of Rahmer. Wagaman worked his way back up to third and Hartlaub crossed the line fourth. Bollinger completed the top five.

Steve Owings Back in Victory Lane

It had been a little over a year since two-time track champion, Steve Owings, had been in victory lane at Lincoln. That all changed on Saturday night when Owings scored his ninth career Lincoln win.

Pole sitter, Jude Siegel, led the field into turn 1 but there was a yellow on the start when Doug Hammaker was facing the wrong way in turns 1 and 2. On the complete restart, Siegel led the field into turn once again but Steve Owings used the top line in turns 1 and 2 for a killer move that saw him go from fourth to second. Owings had the lead by a nose at the flag stand on lap 3. Siegel was right there and the two were side by side at the line on lap 5 with Owings holding the advantage by inches.

There was also an exciting battle transpiring between Cody Fletcher and Frankie Herr for fourth. Fletcher eventually pulled away and went to challenge Ashely Cappetta for third. Fletcher took the position but Cappetta stuck around and was still putting pressure on Cody to try and regain the spot.

Josh Harner brought out the yellow on lap 7 when he spun in turns 1 and 2.

Owings pulled away from Siegel, Fletcher, Cappetta and Logan Rumsey on the restart. Rumsey looked to the outside of Cappetta and briefly had fourth before Cappetta reclaimed the position. The yellow flew again on lap 8, this time it was for Tom Senseney in turns 1 and 2.

Fletcher looked to the outside of Siegel on the restart but settled for third. Owings was pulling away again as Ayden Hare used the top line to gain speed and challenge Cappetta for fifth. Hare and Cappetta went back and forth with Hare eventually coming away with fifth.

As Owings continued to pull away, Hammaker was on the move after his early race mishap and was up to sixth with three laps to go.

Owings scored the win by 1.020 seconds over Siegel. Rumsey crossed the line third and Fletcher was fourth. Hammaker had an impressive run through the field to finish fifth.
