Abbottstown, PA (June 8, 2024) – Tyler Ross has been fast and he was able to put together a solid night on Saturday to score the $7,000 Elijah Hawkins Memorial victory. It was Ross’ fifth career win at Lincoln and his first since 2021.
Aaron Bollinger drew the pole in the redraw and last week’s winner Troy Wagaman, lined up to his outside. Bollinger led the field into turn 1 as Wagaman fended off a challenge for second from Cameron Smith. The caution came out on lap 1 when Tyler Esh spun in turns 1 and 2.
Bollinger paced the field ahead of Wagaman, Smith, TJ Stutts and Tyler Ross for the restart. Lucas Wolfe was there to make a run on Ross for a spot in the top five but could not make the pass. Ross pulled away from Wolfe and went to work on Stutts and moved into fourth.
Smith got high in turn 2 allowing Ross to close in and challenge for third but the yellow came out again on lap 5 before he could make the pass.
Smith moved up to second and Ross was running next to Wagaman on the restart. Ross took over third on lap 7, sending Wagaman back to fourth.
Tyler got a good run off of turn 2 and moved into second on lap 9, passing Smith. Heavy lapped traffic loomed ahead of Bollinger and came into play on lap 12. Just as the leaders were starting to work through lapped traffic, the yellow came out on lap 14.
Bollinger had the lead for the restart with Ross, Smith, Wagaman and Stutts stacked up behind him.
Ross pulled a slider on the restart and forced Bollinger up the track and took the lead. Bollinger hung on to second with Smith all over him challenging for the position.
The field saw another caution on lap 22. Ross had a solid restart and Wagman got past Smith for third. Matt Campbell entered the picture and made quick work of Smith to take fourth.
Ross, Bollinger, Wagaman, Campbell and Smith lined up for a restart with 5 laps to go. Bollinger tried to return the favor with a slider on the restart but could not make the pass. Campbell used the top to get by Wagaman and take third.
The red flag came out just as the white flag was shown to the leaders. The red was opened to allow teams to add fuel for the one lap shoot out to the checkered.
Bollinger stuck with Ross on the restart and looked to the outside but could not find a way around Ross. Ross took the checkered flag .755 seconds ahead of Bollinger. Wagaman crossed the line third and Campbell was fourth. Smith completed the top five.
Jayden Wolf Best in 358 Sprint Car Action
Andy Best and Chad Criswell made up the front row for the start of the 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature. The initial start was called back after the front row did not go together at the line. Best and Criswell got it right on the second try with Best heading to the bottom and Criswell to his outside. The two raced side by side around the track until Criswell got a solid run off turn 4 to lead lap 1.
Steve Owings got by Best for second. Jayden Wolf, who started eighth was using the high line around the track and found himself in the top 4 by lap 3. Wolf got by Best for third on lap 5 as Owings was closing in on Criswell.
Wolf got by Owings for second on lap 9 and immediately went after Criswell, making the pass for the lead on the back stretch after getting a solid run off the top of turn 2.
Dough Hammaker, who started 10th, was up to fourth on lap 13, working his way to the front of the field. As Wolf approached lapped traffic, Criswell was not going away. Hammaker got up to third and was closing in on the top 2.
The red flag came out on lap 16 for Wyatt Hinkle who got upside down in turn 4.
Wolf, Criswell, Hammaker, Owings and Logan Rumsey lined up for the restart with four laps to go.
Criswell looked to the inside of Wolf but could not make the pass. Hammaker was all over Criswell for second and took the spot with two laps to go. Wolf held off Hammaker by .278 seconds to take the checkered flag. Owings got by Criswell for third and Rumsey crossed the line fifth.
